Abstract

This paper introduces the structural design of Torch Tower, which will be the tallest building in Japan upon completion. Torch Tower is a large-scale mixed-use complex standing 385 meters tall, with 62 stories above ground and a total floor area of approximately 550,000 square meters. The central Tokyo area, where Torch Tower is located, is an area with an extremely severe seismic environment for super-tall buildings. In designing the structural system for Torch Tower, we conducted extensive studies on structural framework planning and response control systems for super-tall buildings, ultimately developing a structural system well-suited for large-scale development in central Tokyo. This paper introduces the structural design of Torch Tower, including the Damped Braced Tube System, which enables the building to achieve extremely high seismic performance even under severe seismic conditions.
