Abstract

The current issue of the International Journal of High-Rise Building is devoted to the papers presented in the annual China-Japan-Korea Tall Building Forum of 2026. After joining the forum held in Tokyo, Japan, I present this special issue with pleasure. The theme of the Forum this year was "how can high-rise buildings contribute to the realization of a sustainable society?" Six papers from the Forum are presented in this issue and the other papers will be presented in the next issue of the journal.

Yizhou Zhang et al. presents "Force Characteristics and Design Ideas of Complex Multi-Tower Connected High-Rise Structures." Keum Jung Song et al. presents "Structural Design and Erection of Super Tall Building: Global Business Center." Tetsuya Kawamata et al. studies "High-Rise Building with Core Walls and Seismic Isolation Systems: Toda Building" Yoji Ishibashi et al. presents "Development of Robust structural System utilizing Damped Braced Tube System." Honglei Wu et al. presents "Analysis and Design of Vertical Load Transfer and Transfer Structure in Complex High-Rise Buildings." Dong Hyun Chung presents another paper on the topic of complex shaped tall buildings, "Integrated Solutions for Complex Structures: Seong-Su K Project."

The upcoming CJK Tall Building Forum of 2027 will be held in Shanghai, China. I am fully confident that the forum will continue to be an exemplary gathering place to discuss tall buildings, an essential building type today and even more for the future. While the forum is held in these three countries, the participants are global oftentimes. If you are interested in joining the forum, please do not hesitate to contact me and/or other leaders of the journal and forum.

With the rapid growth of population and urbanization throughout the globe, tall buildings are an inevitable building type. The International Journal of High-Rise Buildings promotes research and application of innovative technology and design to create more livable and sustainable vertical built environments with well-thought-out tall building developments. Papers making a seminal contribution to this important effort are always welcome.
